Hardy, patient and brave

The moral characteristics of the Finlanders command respect. They want the bold daring and eager ambition which distinguish men from romance celebrates and history records. But there is a strength in their virtue which, though not dazzling, is sure, and has ever rendered them valuable as subjects, and would make them important as foes.
